South Carolina’s going to be shorthanded for Saturday’s game against Clemson. The Gamecocks will be down six players for the game, the school confirmed Thursday night.

South Carolina coach Frank Martin confirmed the news on the “Carolina Calls” radio show, but didn’t say which players would be out, according to The State’s Michael Lananna. He only said AJ Wilson will miss the game as he deals with a knee injury. Martin said Wilson will probably be out two to three weeks.

The Gamecocks are 8-2 this season and coming off a 110-51 blowout of Allen on Tuesday. South Carolina took Florida State down to the wire on Sunday and eventually defeated the Seminoles 66-65 at Colonial Life Arena.

COVID-19 has come up quite a bit in sports this week. The NFL, NBA and college basketball have had their share of COVID issues, and multiple college hoops games have been canceled due to positive tests.

If South Carolina’s game against Clemson goes as scheduled, it will tip off Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on the ACC Network. If it doesn’t happen, the Gamecocks’ next scheduled game would be Dec. 22 when they host Army at Colonial Life Arena.

Kentucky vs. Ohio State basketball game canceled due to COVID-19

Saturday’s CBS Sports Classic matchup between Kentucky and Ohio State has been called off due to COVID-19 issues within the Buckeyes’ program. Kentucky tweeted the announcement on Thursday afternoon.

“Our game vs. Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic Saturday has been cancelled due to positive COVID-19 results within the OSU program,” Kentucky tweeted. “CBS Sports Classic is working with UK to find a possible replacement game.”

Kentucky said that the team is still scheduled to travel to Las Vegas, the site of the CBS Sports Classic. The Wildcats are hoping to find a replacement game. Kentucky Sports Radio reports the Wildcats are flying to Las Vegas to take on North Carolina, though.

Saturday’s game between Kentucky and Ohio State would have been a good one. Kentucky is 7-2 to begin the season, while Ohio State is 8-2. The Buckeyes have picked up wins over three ranked teams already: Seton Hall, Duke, and Wisconsin. Ohio State is currently ranked No. 15, while Kentucky sits at No. 21.

That led Iona coach Rick Pitino to get involved. The Gaels’ game against Seton Hall scheduled for Saturday got canceled, so he took to Twitter to ask for a new opponent.

When Kentucky’s game got called, Pitino knew what he had to do.

“@KentuckyMBB if you need an opponent Saturday, we travel,” Pitino tweeted.
