Thursday afternoon, Shane Beamer got what every college coach dreams of: a mayonnaise bath. But not everyone was amused — and Beamer was sure to call one writer out.

CBS Sports reporter Dennis Dodd was critical of the mayonnaise bath during the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and took it to Twitter.

“My God, we’ve reached the point where hyping a condiment being poured on an adult male passes for programming,” Dodd tweeted. “When we have the discussion about bowl relevance, I’ll start right here.”

For context, Beamer said prior to the game that he’s not a mayonnaise fan. That said, he owned the mayo bath and played along with the highly anticipated celebration.

But he responded to Dodd’s tweet — and he didn’t hold back.

“What’s it like being so miserable all the time?” Beamer tweeted. “For a sport you ‘cover’ @dennisdoddcbs… praying for you. I still remember back in July at SEC Media Days when you said the CEILING for our team was 2 wins… Keep bringing that expert ‘analysis.’ Happy New Year #FindSomeJoy”

Wow.

Beamer’s South Carolina team put on quite a performance, defeating North Carolina 38-21 in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. As is tradition, the winning coach got a mayonnaise bath instead of a Gatorade bath to celebrate.

The first-year Gamecocks coach got both, and Duke’s Mayo donated $10,000 to the charity of his choosing, as well.

It’s tradition for coaches to get a Gatorade bath after a big win. But after the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Shane Beamer got doused with something much different.

Hope he likes mayonnaise.

Yes, after South Carolina defeated North Carolina in the Mayo Bowl, Beamer took a nice bath in mayonnaise — 4.5 gallons of it, to be exact.

He didn’t waste any time acknowledging what was coming next after the game.

“Honestly, I’m thinking, ‘Oh my god, I’ve got to go do this Mayo bath now,’ to be honest with you,” Beamer told ESPN’s Taylor McGregor.

McGregor ended the interview by asking what the mayonnaise bath and the $10,000 donated to charity means to him. He didn’t hold back.

“It means we won, but that’s about the only good thing about it, to be honest with you,” Beamer said.

Even quarterback Dakereon Joyner said Beamer “can have” the mayonnaise bath. It was certainly something.

Earlier this week, Duke’s announced its plans to shower the winning coach in mayonnaise. Both Beamer and North Carolina coach Mack Brown had varying responses.

“I’m not a big mayonnaise guy,” Beamer said. “I mean, I’ll gladly take one for the team on that one if it means we won a football game, but woof.”
