Travian Robertson has yet to coach a game or even a practice at South Carolina, but according to Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer, he’s already making his mark on the program.

Robertson was named the new South Carolina defensive line coach on May 1, and he immediately got to work on the recruiting trail.

Beamer has been impressed by what he has done so far in just a short amount of time.

“He hit the ground running. He got here on Tuesday [May 2], and he was on the road by Tuesday night, once he came in and we did the press conference and did everything he needed to do [as far as] getting organized. I think it’s been great,” Beamer said.

Robertson, who previously worked at Tulane and Georgia State, replaced Jimmy Lindsey as the Gamecocks defensive line coach. Robertson is recruiting the same areas Lindsey did, making the transition an easy one.

“One of the things that was attractive with Travian was the fact that when he was at Georgia State, when he was at Tulane, when he was at Albany State, he recruited a lot of the same areas,” Beamer said. “So really, we’ve just plugged him in where our previous d-line coach recruited, and he’s hit the ground running. He has a good understanding about those areas.”

Robertson played college football at South Carolina and is someone who had been on Beamer’s radar for a while.

Beamer felt like now was the right time to bring him on board, and the reviews have been great so far.

“When I got hired here, I had a lot of high school coaches that reached out to me telling me that I should hire Travian Robertson,” Beamer said. “So there were a lot of high school coaches then that felt really, really highly of him. And he’s only improved as a coach and a recruiter since then.”
