With Spencer Rattler transferring from Oklahoma to South Carolina over the offseason, one of the most important things the new Gamecocks quarterback has done is build a rapport with his new teammates. A lot can be said about his efforts to develop chemistry with his threats on the outside, like senior wideout Josh Vann, but what about with the guys up front? During a recent press conference, Rattler explains how he’s handled the task of leading his new veteran offensive line as a transfer quarterback.

“Yeah, I got tremendous respect for all those guys up front. They’ve worked their tail off all spring ball and fall camp. They’re doing a great job,” said Rattler. “I know they’re not mentioned enough in the media and everywhere, but they’re killing it upfront. So, I got my trust in those big dogs led by, you know, Eric Douglas up front. But all those guys are making great plays and great strides for us.”

The South Carolina offensive line will have to improve on their pass-blocking ability from last season. The Gamecocks’ offensive line gave up 30 sacks over the 13-game season, which includes their bowl game victory against North Carolina.

Rattler has confidence in his offensive line. If they have confidence in him and can keep him upright, fans should be confident in South Carolina’s ability to make a significant jump in the 2022 season.

Rattler excited by growth of offense after first week of fall camp

South Carolina started week two of fall camp on Monday, after topping off week one with the Gamecocks’ first scrimmage in Williams-Brice Stadium.

Starting quarterback Spencer Rattler, speaking for the first time since practice started, said the team had a lot of fun during the scrimmage and that the offense is already starting to look good.

“We made some explosive plays, ran the ball well, threw the ball well and obviously we still got another week plus to work so we’re excited to see our growth,” Rattler said.

Although it’s still early in camp, Rattler said that the offense will be looking to improve its performance in the red zone.

The Oklahoma transfer said that the offense had several opportunities in the red zone during the scrimmage but just couldn’t get it done.

The early woes are likely a result of a lack of reps, seeing that Shane Beamer said the red zone schemes were installed in practice on Thursday before the scrimmage.
