Lamont Paris provides update on Myles Stute injury
South Carolina fell to Georgia at home on Tuesday night, losing to the Bulldogs 74-69 to hand the Gamecocks their second SEC loss of the season.
The Gamecocks not only lost the game, but lost one of their starters in Colonial Life Arena on Tuesday, with guard Myles Stute exiting the game early after suffering a shoulder injury. Following the matchup, South Carolina head coach Lamon Paris provided an injury update on Stute after his early exit from the game.
“He’s gonna get an MRI on his shoulder tomorrow and so we’ll get some more information,” Paris said. “So I don’t know, I know he’s in a lot of pain right now, but we’ll get more information tomorrow.”
Stute exited the game in the second half after getting tangled up with Georgia guard RJ Melendez, who was called for a flagrant foul for a hook-and-hold that resulted in Stute’s shoulder injury and trip to the locker room for the remainder of the contest.
Stute logged just 20 minutes on the night, scoring five points with an assistant and a rebound apiece before leaving the game. It’s his first season with the Gamecocks, spending the first three years of his career at Vanderbilt before joining South Carolina this past offseason.

He was a three-star high school prospect out of Gonzaga in Washington, DC, where he was ranked the No. 187 overall player and the No. 44 small forward in the 2020 recruiting class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
With the Commodores Stute appeared in 91 games and made 59 starts, averaging 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 36.1% from three-point range.
Stute has started in all 17 of South Carolina’s games this season, averaging a career-high 9.9 points per game on a 43.2% shooting from the field. He’s scored in double figures in 11 games so far this season highlighted by a season-high 21 points in the Hall of Fame series against Virginia Tech.
There’s no question that Stute would serve as a big loss for the Gamecocks as they look to continue building on their impressive 14-3 start to the season. But hopefully, he’ll be available for South Carolina’s next game on Saturday, as they hit the road to take on Arkansas at 1 p.m. ET in a matchup airing on SEC Network.
