South Carolina hires Arkansas tight ends coach Dowell Loggains as offensive coordinator
After Marcus Satterfield left South Carolina to join Matt Rhule at Nebraska, Shane Beamer has found his new offensive coordinator. He’s turning to an SEC rival to fill the role.
South Carolina announced it’s hiring Arkansas tight ends coach Dowell Loggains as its new offensive coordinator. Loggains spent the last two years in Fayetteville as tight ends coach following 12 years as an NFL assistant.
Loggains, who attended Arkansas as a student, got his coaching start with the Tennessee Titans as a quality control coach from 2008-09. From there, he moved up to quarterbacks coach from 2010-11 and offensive coordinator from 2012-13. He then spent 2014 as the Cleveland Browns’ quarterbacks coach before three years with the Chicago Bears, starting as quarterbacks coach in 2015 and moving up to offensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017.
In 2018, Loggains became the Miami Dolphins’ offensive coordinator before taking the same role with the New York Jets from 2019-20. He latched on at Arkansas in June 2021.
Satterfield was South Carolina’s offensive coordinator for the last two years as Beamer took over the program. Under his watch, the Gamecocks went from the No. 13 scoring offense in the SEC in 2021 to the eighth-ranked scoring unit in the league this year. He’s now getting ready to reunite with Rhule, whom he worked for from 2018-20. The two most recently worked together at Baylor from 2018-19 and with the Carolina Panthers in 2020.

Beamer acknowledged Satterfield’s departure this week, saying he had a feeling something would happen when he found out Rhule was heading to Lincoln.
“I know the relationship that [Satterfield] and Matt have, so once Matt got let go by Carolina, I knew because of what Coach Rhule had done in college football that he was going to have other college teams that were interested in him,” Beamer said. “So I certainly knew that he would make a phone call to Marcus if he ever got a job again in college. … Wish him well.
“Good opportunity for him to get connected back with Coach Rhule and a lot of those guys that he’s coached with at not only Baylor, but Temple as well. So he was excited about the opportunity and we thank him for everything that he did for South Carolina football in his two years here and wish him well out in Lincoln with Coach Rhule.”
