After the latest rankings updates from other recruiting services, Dillon (S.C.) offensive tackle Josiah Thompson is now a five-star prospect in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Thompson, a South Carolina commit, is now the No. 25 overall prospect in the cycle and is one of 32 five-star prospects in the class. He’s also now the No. 3 OT and remains the top-ranked player in South Carolina. On3 ranks Thompson much higher than other recruiting services, as he checks in at No. 8 overall in the On300.

The 6-foot-6, 275-pounder committed to the Gamecocks on April 14, choosing the in-state program over Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, and others.

“What stood out ultimately about South Carolina is the way the coaches want you to become great on and off the field. I love the way they work hard every day. Working hard will help you achieve something great,” Thompson told On3 upon his commitment.

Thompson is now the second five-star recruit in South Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class, which ranks No. 19 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. He joins Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Dylan Stewart, the No. 13 recruit and No. 3 EDGE in the cycle.

Thompson has an On3 NIL Valuation of $220K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Josiah Thompson Scouting Summary

On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this about him as a prospect:

“Physically-gifted offensive tackle prospect with plus length and reactive movement skills. Measured in at around 6-foot-6, 275 pounds prior to his junior season. Has plus length and a big frame to continue adding weight. A twitchy mover for the position. Flexible athlete who plays low and with good pad level. Gets underneath the pads of opposing defensive linemen. Generates a push as a run blocker. Has some of the better reactive quickness among offensive tackles in the 2024 cycle. Will need to develop his pass set technique, but has the natural tools to be a top pass protector, likely as a left tackle. Has a developmental frame, but may need time in the weight room to add strength and mass. A high-upside prospect who projects as one of the top offensive tackles in the cycle pending further development.”
