South Carolina QB Robby Ashford enters NCAA Transfer Portal
South Carolina quarterback Robby Ashford has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.
Ashford is on the move after spending one season at South Carolina where he served as the backup to Gamecocks star QB LaNorris Sellers. He spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons at Auburn, prior to transferring to South Carolina.
Robby Ashford appeared in eight games for the Gamecocks this season. He threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 227 yards and two scores.
Ashford was a member of the 2020 recruiting class. He was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 23 quarterback in the country that year, per the On3 Industry rankings.
Robby Ashford battled LaNorris Sellers for the South Carolina starting quarterback job ahead of the 2024 season, before Sellers was eventually named the starter. Still, Ashford came up big for the Gamecocks at times, particularly when Sellers was injured.
The Alabama native started his career at Oregon before transferring to Auburn and then South Carolina.

Robby Ashford and South Carolina exceeded expectations in 2024. The Gamecocks nearly reached the College Football Playoff, finishing with a 9-3 record in the regular season.
Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer was disappointing his team was not one of the 12 teams selected for the CFP and recently shared his biggest complaint with the selection process.
“There’s a lot of things that can be — as I said I was in Atlanta yesterday with a lot of media members, with a lot of people from the SEC office,” Shane Beamer said. “Players and coaches on both teams, fans, and heard from a lot of them about their opinion of Gamecock football and it was very positive. I think my biggest frustration right now was maybe just the inconsistencies of what’s important.”
