Former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler will be moving from the Big 12 to the SEC, announcing his commitment to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Monday. He will be linking up with head coach Shane Beamer who was the assistant head coach and tight ends coach for the Sooners from 2018-2020.

On Tuesday afternoon, the school made it official, announcing Rattler was officially a Gamecock. He will head to Columbia, hoping to become the starting quarterback for the 2022 season.

Rattler is coming off a season where the expectations were a Heisman Trophy. Instead, Caleb Williams replaced him during the Red River Shootout against Texas. He finished the year with 1,483 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

New opportunities await with South Carolina.

There was more than just one former Oklahoma player that announced he would be transferring to South Carolina on Monday. Tight end Austin Stogner will continue to be teammates with the quarterback and rejoin his old position coach.

Rattler is clearly excited to have one of his favorite targets tagging along with him, tweeting out a handshake emoji shortly after Stogner’s commitment. The new Gamecock teammates’ connection is already noticable.

Stogner played out the entire season and was still able to produce with Williams taking the snaps for the Sooners. The tight end caught 14 passes for 166 yards, getting into the endzone three times.

The two player’s transfers come off the backs of Lincoln Riley leaving to accept the USC Trojans head coaching job. A slew of Oklahoma players decided to enter the portal, with Rattler and Stogner being two of the highly sought after. Beamer was able to win out, securing two important pieces for the South Carolina offense next season.

South Carolina is 6-6 on the season and preparing to play North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte. For large parts of the season, the Gamecocks were playing Zeb Noland, a graduate assistant who was activated to the playing roster midway through fall camp, using his final (sixth) year of eligibility due to injuries at the position.
