South Carolina, Shane Beamer land defensive back transfer commitment
South Carolina continues to have success in the transfer market. The Gamecocks just picked up another transfer commitment, this time from former Central Michigan defensive back Devonni Reed.
Reed announced his commitment to South Carolina on Monday afternoon. He officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on January 3.
Reed is a former three-star recruit according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He originally chose Central Michigan over Minnesota, Toledo, Western Michigan, and others.
Reed has been a four-year starter for Central Michigan before opting to transfer and ultimately going to South Carolina. The Detroit native will be entering his sixth season of college football, as he took a redshirt year as a true freshman in 2017.
Last season, Reed earned third team All-MAC honors for his play. He improved to a second team selection this year after he totaled 73 tackles, two interceptions, a touchdown, and six pass breakups. In 43 collegiate games, Reed has totaled 287 tackles.

South Carolina has loaded up on talent from the transfer portal
One of the biggest dominoes of the offseason so far has been former Oklahoma star quarterback Spencer Rattler deciding to transfer to South Carolina. Additionally, tight end Austin Stogner left Oklahoma to join Rattler with the Gamecocks.
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer did a remarkable job at turning the Gamecocks around. The team went from a projected bottom team in the SEC to bowl eligible with a final record of 7-6. Beamer has tremendous momentum right now, and adding transfers of Rattler’s caliber says a lot about the state of the program.
“Yeah I think it’s a lot of it,” Beamer said of the hype and momentum Rattler brings to South Carolina’s recruiting class. “I think for one, it’s a great statement nationally about this program and the way that young men view it. The fact that Spencer and Austin, they could have gone anywhere in the country. I mean Austin was on a visit to Ohio State last weekend, he was at Iowa State before that. Spencer I’m sure could have chosen his school, and they chose to come to South Carolina.”
