South Carolina wideout Juice Wells was taken to the locker room on a cart shortly after he gave the Gamecocks a 7-0 lead over Georgia. Wells did not appear to get injured on the play.

However, as the Georgia offense took the field, the CBS broadcast showed Wells getting attended to on the sideline. He was eventually seen on the cart heading to the locker room.

CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell reported that Wells went to the injury tent right after the play with his shoe off, visibly frustrated.

“He came over to the sideline and went straight into the injury tent. When he came out of the injury tent, he was without his left shoe on. He was visibly frustrated when he tried to even put any weight on that left leg. He is currently in the locker room now,” Dell reported.

Wells was not back on the field after South Carolina took over possession, now leading 7-3. The CBS broadcast speculated that he would not return on Saturday, a fact that was later confirmed by head coach Shane Beamer.

On the first drive, Wells had two receptions for 32 yards and the opening touchdown. He’s one of South Carolina’s most dynamic offensive weapons, and the Gamecocks will need to make do without on the road against the top-ranked Bulldogs.

The injury that Wells sustained on Saturday appears to be separate from the hamstring that has hampered him since the first quarter of the season.

“We have missed the presence of a really good player that’s working hard to get back into it. 17, that’s been the talk right now,” Gamecocks offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said on Wednesday. “But let’s not forget about resumes and not forget what people have done. He’s impacted the program the most when they needed him last year and we need that competitive spirit from here on out.”

Beamer offered an unfortunate update on Wells

Dell spoke with Beamer ahead of the second quarter of Saturday’s game, and he predicted Wells’ day was likely over. However, he recently had surgery on that foot, which is why Beamer was initially optimistic about how much time Wells would miss.

“He’s done right now,” Beamer said. “Think he may have a little bit of a broken bone in the foot. The good news is it’s the foot we just did surgery on, so he’s got a screw in there that stabilizes it. So there’s hope. I doubt he comes back today, but we’ll see what happens going forward.”
