Shane Beamer has been working overtime when trying to change the vibe and culture around South Carolina football. Those efforts paid dividends to end last season and with big additions during the offseason. The biggest addition by far was former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler. In the end, the foundation Beamer is building in Columbia is what attracted him to the program.
Rattler discussed working with Beamer at the Gamecock’s Media Day on Thursday. He says it’s been so far, so good between he and his former Sooner OC and that he sees what kind of impact Beamer has already made on the program
“It’s been great. He’s preaching everything that’s right. He’s got this program going in the right direction,” said Rattler. “We’re just focused on, day by day, getting better and that’s all that we can focus on right now. We start up camp tomorrow and we’re more than excited to get going.”
Rattler’s path crossed with Beamer’s over two seasons in Norman. Beamer was a part of Lincoln Riley’s early staffs at OU as an offensive mind for their powerhouse. That previous relationship made it very easy for Rattler to come to the decision to rejoin Beamer in the SEC.

Beamer’s one season thus far wasn’t necessarily a raging success on the field. The Gamecocks did win a bowl game but it only put them one game over .500 for the year. However, it’s the aura around what he’s doing that have plenty excited to see what South Carolina can be this fall.
If things break the right way for Shane Beamer, Spencer Rattler and company, they’ll be a team to keep an eye on in the SEC landscape throughout the season. It’ll all start rolling once they finish fall camp and get to the opener against Georgia State on September 3rd.
