South Carolina is ready to get on the board in SEC play. The two conference contests the Gamecocks have already played have led to both of their losses so far. With another opportunity on the horizon, Spencer Rattler is ready to get his SEC win ever and his team’s first SEC win of the season.

Rattler spoke about South Carolina’s game this weekend against No. 14 Kentucky during media on Tuesday. He says he recognizes the size of this game for their team and now it’s on them to have the confidence to go win it.

“Every game is important but, obviously getting into SEC play, this is a big game for us,” said Rattler. “We don’t want to take it out of proportion and make it anything it isn’t. We’re gonna work hard every day. We know we’ve got a good opponent in front of us, but we’re a good team as well.”

South Carolina has combined to beat Georgia StateCharlotte, and South Carolina State by 97 points. In comparison, though, they’ve lost to Arkansas and Georgia by a combined 55 points. A win in Lexington would be big in order to help the Gamecocks avoid an 0-3 SEC start. Still, Rattler wants his team to focus on themselves. They want to get the win and they have just a few more days to prepare for it.

“It definitely gives you more juice to go every day. Wanting to get a big win on the road. Do it for the program, do it for Coach Beamer, do it for ourselves,” Rattler said. “We’re all working hard. We’re extremely urgent because we’ve got a few more days to prepare and then we leave Friday. Then we’ll be playing Saturday. So we’re chomping at the bit and we’re ready to go.”

While going 7-6 in Shane Beamer’s first season, South Carolina only went 3-5 in the SEC last season. To avoid a repeat or worse, getting this victory over Kentucky would be big for the program. Rattler and the Gamecocks will have to stay the course, though, before they enter this weekend’s road environment with a win on their minds.
