South Carolina made one of the biggest splashes in the transfer portal over the offseason when it landed Spencer Rattler from Oklahoma. He sounds ready for his debut, too.

Rattler opened up about his development during training camp and getting ready for his first game with his new team. He said the Gamecocks put together a solid training camp leading up to this week’s opening-night showdown with Georgia State in Columbia, and he took big strides from the first day of camp to game week.

“I think as a group, we had a great camp,” Rattler told GamecockCentral’s Wes Mitchell. “You’re going to have those slow starts in camp. I mean, that’s every camp. Not slow starts, but you want to fix a lot in that three weeks you have. That’s what we did. The growth from day one to now is a lot. Obviously, we’ve still got this practice week, this game week, to prepare for Georgia State on Saturday. But I’m confident in this group and it was a great camp and we had a lot of fun. Got a lot of great work in.”

Rattler was the No. 5 transfer to hit the portal this offseason, according to the 2021 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, after leaving Oklahoma following the 2021 season. He’ll make his long-awaited South Carolina debut when the Gamecocks face Georgia State Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Spencer Rattler reveals what a normal game week is like for South Carolina players

South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler will be making his debut for the Gamecocks this weekend. As he preps himself for their matchup versus Georgia State, he walked through what a week of preparation looks like for him and the team with GamecockCentral’s Wes Mitchell.

“A normal game week up here, we go Sunday, we had an hour, 50-minute practice just getting our feet back on the grass getting loose yesterday and had about an hour lift, probably an hour and a half of meetings,” Rattler said. “Obviously, meals and everything like that, so that’d be Sunday. Monday is our off day, so this morning I went up there and watched some film with coach Coleman and [Luke] Doty. And then, obviously, we’ve got class and stuff like that, might go back in the evening and watch film.”
