Trey Knox had an up-and-down career through four seasons as an Arkansas Razorback, but is now at South Carolina hoping to make a bigger impact in the SEC than he did back with the Hogs in his final year of school. While he’s had his fair share of highs and lows in Fayetteville, Knox is undoubtedly a talented playmaker and has nearly 900 yards and nine touchdowns for his career.

The new Gamecock tight end is already getting along well with QB! Spencer Rattler, who said after the spring game that he’s thrilled to have an experienced player like Knox on the roster.

“Yeah, I mean, you can’t complain when you got guys like this, Trey, many other guys and guys coming in,” said Rattler. He also wishes he hadn’t missed on a pass to Knox during one play in particular.

“It would have looked a lot better tonight if I hit him on the fade ball, missed him a little bit. But, you know, we’ll connect on that in the season and work through the summer.”

Lastly, Rattler touted Knox’s leadership since he’s arrived.

“But Trey has been a great add-on to our team, very selfless, great leader experienced guy in this conference and he played really well tonight. I was happy to get him his first touchdown in Willie B.”

Knox himself has also discussed taking on more of a leadership role. He’s been through just about everything as a fifth-year SEC veteran who started playing before COVID and said he has plenty of wisdom to impart on the younger Razorbacks.

“The guys look to me when they need anything said, and I take that not lightly at all,” Knox said following the spring game. “I’ve been playing this game, in this conference, for a lot of years. I’ve seen some things and done some things that weren’t very good or done some things that were very good. And I just want to pass that along, because I don’t want them to struggle like I did. If they can skip those struggles and have successes, then that’s great.”

Trey Knox certainly projects as a solid player on the field for South Carolina, but even if he struggles after the move, his experience and leadership will be beneficial for the Gamecocks in more ways than fans may realize. Starting quarterback Spencer Rattler seems to be a big fan already.
