A lot of Spencer Rattler’s decision to transfer to South Carolina this offseason was the coaching staff. His connection with Shane Beamer at Oklahoma played a big part. However, his instant connection with OC Marcus Satterfield has only continued to grow since his commitment last December.
Rattler spoke about his relationship with Satterfield in an exclusive interview with GamecockCentral. He says they’re both on the same page as far as offensively as well as what the offense can do for the Gamecocks team overall this season.

“Satt’s my guy. He’s a great coach, great dude just to be around, knows a lot about the game, and has taught me so much already,” said Rattler. “We definitely both, I would say, have a chip on our shoulder. We want to play hard, we want to win, and we want what’s best for the team. You put those three things together and and it can be something special.”
South Carolina’s 2021 offense finished outside the Top-100 at 22.6 points per game. That was due to the rotating door they had at QB with Luke Doty, Jason Brown and Zeb Noland. Rattler is a significant and immediate upgrade over all three with more passing yards in his year and a half as the Sooner’s starter than that trio threw their entire South Carolina careers.

It’s now about getting the job done with Satterfield on Saturdays for Rattler. He says Satterfield’s energy is something the players and staff can fire themselves up with offensively during the game.
“We’ve just got to go out there and do it. Execute on every drive, every play and just have fun with it,” Rattler said. “At the end of the day, he loves to have fun out there and express himself. I think everybody on the offense loves that as well. You can kind of see us feed off each other, players and coaches.”
If Rattler makes the overall impact the team expects him to, South Carolina’s offense will drastically improve. He and Satterfield have worked all offseason to find ways to put points on the board for the Gamecocks during the season. How effective their effort was will be seen starting tomorrow night when they open against Georgia State.
