Spencer Rattler just wrapped up his first spring camp with the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback caught up with the media to outline his offseason plans between now and when the Gamecocks report to camp this summer.

“I’ll be getting my work in Arizona with my strength coach and my quarterback coach,” Rattler said. “But really just working on my footwork. I’ll bring my playbook back to Arizona and we will work on that and watch some film. And then continue to work on my speed and running the ball a little bit.”

Before getting replaced by Caleb Williams as the Oklahoma starting quarterback last season, Spencer Rattler threw for 1,483 yards, 11 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

The new South Carolina singal caller has mentioned the freedom he is expecting to extend plays with his legs in 2022, which will be different than the game plan he described in Norman.

Rattler closed out last season with just 77 yards on 43 rushing attempts. He had three touchdowns but averaged just 1.8 yards per rush.

Spencer Rattler on what he’s enjoyed most about South Carolina so far

Rattler has been open about his transfer from the Oklahoma Sooners recently, even calling it a “toxic situation.” Rattler has said playing for Shane Beamer is an opportunity he needed for his career after how the 2021 season transpired in Norman.

When asked what he’s enjoyed the most about South Carolina thus far, Spencer Rattler was extremely complimentary of the fan base. With the Gamecocks’ spring game taking place over the weekend, the quarterback got to play in front of Williams-Brice Stadium for the first time. Rattler said if the fans have the team’s back, they will “feel invincible” throughout the year.

“Just the overall vibe,” Rattler said. “Like I said the other day, this city, this town — you can feel the excitement for this team and the love for this team. That’s big-time for us. When our fans got our back, we feel invincible. Like I said, great turnout tonight, and made me even happier. Knowing I made the right decision with how loyal these fans are and how happy they were to see us play today.”

Spencer Rattler will get to play two out of his first three games this season at home, with the Georgia Bulldogs coming to town in Week 3. If South Carolina can get past an early SEC matchup against Arkansas, the atmosphere at Williams-Brice Stadium will be one of the best all season. With all the love Rattler is showing the Gamecock fans, they will return the favor once the 2021 season kicks off.
