Spencer Rattler: South Carolina's win over Tennessee could 'change the narrative of the program forever'
South Carolina rocked the college football world on Saturday night with their blowout victory over the Tennessee Volunteers. After he led his team to one of the biggest wins in the sport this season, South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler took to the podium and expressed his excitement for the win.
“I can’t even explain the feeling we all have right now,” Rattler said. “This is a game we’ve all been waiting for. We knew — had a couple tough losses these past couple weeks and we knew this game, and obviously the next one, can change the narrative of the program forever. Tonight, that was one of the best wins ever, in college football history. And it was — God is good. God is good.”
Rattler, the Oklahoma transfer quarterback, had his best game as a Gamecock. Rattler went 30-of-37 for 438 yards and six touchdowns in the air. Rattler had a special connection with Antwane Wells all night, as the duo connected 11 times for 177 yards on the night, an average of 16.1 yards per catch.
Despite looking rough in the first half, Tennessee scored the first touchdown of the second half and cut the lead to 35-31. It looked all but inevitable that the Volunteers would come back and win but the Gamecocks did not let that happen. They would score four unanswered touchdowns after that, resulting in a massive win for South Carolina.

The win for head coach Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks might be the one that turns around the trajectory of the program. South Carolina went 6-6 last year in Beamer’s first season as head coach and went on to win the bowl game. With a game against Clemson next week, many were projecting another 6-6 finish for South Carolina. Now, the Gamecocks have ensured a winning record and possibly even an eight-win season.
If South Carolina pulls another upset next week, it would mark the first time it has won eight games as a program since 2017. The Gamecocks and Tigers kick at noon ET next Saturday in Clemson, South Carolina.
