Tight end Austin Stogner joins Spencer Rattler at new school
Spencer Rattler may be at a different school, but he’ll still have Austin Stogner to throw to. At the same time Rattler announced he would transfer to South Carolina on Monday, the former Oklahoma tight end made the same decision.
Rattler was quick to congratulate Stogner on his decision with a reply to his tweet minutes later.
Stogner played in nine games for the Sooners this season, finishing with 14 catches for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Rattler began the year as the starting quarterback but was eventually benched for true freshman Caleb Williams.
The tight end was hampered by injuries and a crowded tight end room this year, which prevented him from reaching his full potential. Austin Stogner was one of Spencer Rattler’s top targets the year before, catching 26 passes for 422 yards and three scores.
Both players choosing South Carolina as their new home should come as no surprise. Current Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer spent three years on the Oklahoma staff from 2018-20 as an associate head coach, so he knows them well.

Beamer led South Carolina to a 6-6 finish in his inaugural season. The addition of Rattler is huge for the Gamecocks, who played three different quarterbacks in 2021.
Both Rattler and Stogner announced their intention to enter the transfer portal following Lincoln Riley’s departure for USC. The pair have played together their entire college career, and that will continue in Columbia
The Gamecocks are set to take on North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Dec. 30. Meanwhile, Oklahoma will face Oregon in the Alamo Bowl without the likes of Rattler and Stogner.
After a strong first year, Beamer will now have higher expectations in 2022 after landing a pair of star players. South Carolina has not enjoyed double digit victories since 2013, but that seems destined to change soon.
