Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow knows what it takes to be a successful quarterback in the SEC. And recently, the former Heisman Trophy-winning signal caller comprised a list of his top five quarterbacks in the conference heading into the 2022 season. Coming in at number four is the South Carolina Gamecocks top acquisition out of the transfer portal Spencer Rattler.

“And then this is super underrated, but Spencer Rattler, super talented, very accurate, very poised. Will he have a good enough offensive line, a good enough receiving corps? But I mean what a talented kid. He was one of the top quarterbacks coming out. I really liked his game. I think when he plays confident he plays elite, and if he can build that confidence,” said Tebow.

Despite having a down year for the Oklahoma Sooners, last year, Rattler has shown elite arm talent at the college level. Rattler has played in 23 games over the past three seasons at Oklahoma under head coach Lincoln Riley, posting a 15-2 record as a starter. He completed 70.1 percent of his passes (361-for-515) for 4,595 yards with 40 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. And prior to last season, he was widely viewed as one of the top Hiseman-hopefuls. heading into this season, Rattler has made the Maxwell Award Watch List again.

Adaptation is necessary for the current landscape of college football. Rattler is a prime example of how quickly things can change.

Rattler entered the 2021 season as a Heisman trophy favorite. Then he was benched for true freshman Caleb Williams during the Red River Rivalry in week 6.

The fresh start seems to have uplifted Rattler. It feels as if he is a lot more comfortable in the Soda City. With the season less than 50 days away, that is exactly what the team needs. When a leader is in a good headspace, everyone else follows suit.
