Lamont Paris got his man on Sunday when three-star wing Trent Noah committed to South Carolina. Noah joins three-star forward Okku Federiko out of Finland.

This 2024 class comes on top of a three-man 2023 class that included forward Collin Murray-Boyles, wing Arden Conyers, and guard Morris Ugusuk

Let’s discuss what getting Trent Noah means for South Carolina.

Who is Trent Noah?

Trent Noah is a 6-foot-6, 200-pound wing, ranked No. 146 in the 2024 On3 150. He is the No. 41 shooting guard in the 2024 On3 150 Industry Ranking. Along with South Carolina, Noah took official visits to Seton Hall, Butler, Western Kentucky, Loyola-Chicago, Saint Louis, and Richmond.

Noah averaged  12.4 points while shooting 43.7 percent from three with the Midwest Basketball Club on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. Noah earned second-team Kentucky All-State honors this season after averaging 26.5 points.

“I feel like I am a good shooter, who defends the ball well,” Noah told On3. I have a good IQ and will do whatever the team needs to win. I’ve seen this summer that I’ve gotten more athletic and improved my game on the defensive end. I enjoy watching Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. I’m trying to take how they play at their own pace and implement it into my game.”

What does he bring to South Carolina?

Lamont Paris has made it no mystery that he wants players who are skilled. Trent Noah is confident on the ball and able to handle, shoot, and pass with precision.

The immediate takeaway with Noah is the jump shot. He has a smooth and consistent release with a sturdy base. He catches the ball shot-ready with good footwork. After watching him for a while, you see the processing. Noah is capable of making plays in the half-court, lining up from multiple positions, and delivering passes with proper touch from different levels.

The athleticism and burst will be a question as he moves into the SEC, but he is able to stay effective on both ends of the floor with positioning. Namely, on the defensive end, he is a good team defender with good feet and an understanding of angles.

Noah fits the archetype of what Lamont Paris has said he wants to fill this roster with.

How does Noah fit in the lineup?

Lamont Paris has done a good job of building the roster and stacking classes. It seems that every freshman he brings, he also brings in a grad transfer. This off-season, the Gamecocks brought in three graduate transfers and three seniors. The team currently has four players in their last season of eligibility.

Looking through the roster, the Gamecocks look to return wings Myles Stute, Zach Davis, and Arden Conyers. Noah will need to get accustomed to the speed of the game and figure out how he fits in with Paris’ system, but there will be a clear pathway to minutes.

Lamont Paris would call Noah one of his guys, and his skill set with positional size is hard to ignore.

Noah Talks South Carolina

“Really, their coaching staff stands out to me. I’ve enjoyed building relationships with them, they are in one of the best leagues in the country (the SEC), and I’m just super excited to get to campus. They like my IQ and feel for the game; they talk about that a lot. Coach (Lamont) Paris has done a great job everywhere he has been. He was with great teams at Wisconsin and at UT-Chattanooga, and he is doing a great job at South Carolina.”
