South Carolina and Auburn went into the locker room at halftime tied at 14 after a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jason Brown to fullback Trai Jones.

It was the first career touchdown for the 6-foot-3, 305-pound redshirt freshman.

Jones arrived in Columbia in 2020 and immediately impressed the coaches. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury late in preseason camp and was sidelined for the rest of the season. The South Carolina native was a three-star recruit out of Abbeville High School.

Brown is 6-for-8 with two touchdowns and a bad interception through 30 minutes. Another Gamecocks running back owns the other touchdown catch, a 28-yard score by ZaQuandre White

South Carolina is seeking their sixth win this season, needed to become bowl eligible.

Shane Beamer to Virginia Tech?

First-year head coach Shane Beamer just arrived in Columbia, but would he leave for the program his father built?

Just after the spot at Virginia Tech opened, Beamer told the media he’s not interested in leaving Columbia.

“This is where I want to be,” Beamer said. “When I said this was my dream job, I wasn’t saying that to sound cool in a press conference. This is where my wife and I and our family want to be. We didn’t put that sign up at Williams-Brice saying Welcome Home because it’s trendy. This is home.”

Virginia Tech split with head coach Justin Fuente just two games shy of the end of his sixth season. The Hokies went 43-31 in his time in Blacksburg, 5-5 this season.

Shane Beamer is considered a top candidate for the Hokies thanks to his father, former VT head coach Frank Beamer. The connection runs deep. The younger Beamer also played wideout for the Hokies and coached running backs under the elder for five seasons.
