Florida and South Carolina are in the middle of a game that the Gators are dominating, and the news went from bad to worse for the Gamecocks in the second half as freshman Zachary Davis was ejected from the game for swinging an elbow to the face of Florida’s Niels Lane.

Davis was tagged with a flagrant 2 foul and tossed from the game with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Florida led 62-39 at the time of Zachary Davis’ ejection, and Davis exited after playing 16 minutes. He had scored just two points in the game prior to his departure.

The Gators had really controlled the game from the opening tip, with big man Colin Castleton having his way in the paint. Through the first 30 minutes of the game Castleton had logged 18 points, three rebounds and three assists on only 19 minutes of action.

At halftime the scores was 34-26 in favor of Florida, but that quickly began to turn after halftime when Castleton was no longer quite as limited by a couple early fouls that impacted his minutes through the first 20 minutes.

Florida began to blow the game open in the second half as it put the screws to South Carolina after Zachary Davis was ejected.

Should the Gators manage to close things out and win, it will be the fifth win in the last six outings, with the lone loss a road defeat at Texas A&M by a 54-52 score.

If the team hopes to entertain postseason ambitions, though, the success will have to continue through a schedule that’s about to get downright brutal.

Florida will travel to face No. 5 Kansas State and former Florida star Keyontae Johnson on Saturday, while games against No. 4 Tennessee and road trips to Kentucky and No. 2 Alabama loom after that.
