5-star IOL Josh Petty changes official visit plans for this weekend
One of the premier linemen in the country, Roswell (Ga.) Fellowship Christian School five-star interior offensive lineman Josh Petty has an extensive official visit schedule planned for this summer.
Initially, that schedule looked as follows: Clemson (May 31), Auburn (June 4), Tennessee (June 7), Stanford (June 10), Oregon (June 14) and Florida State (June 21). Petty already officially visited Georgia Tech on May 28.
Petty announced on social media Thursday afternoon that he will now take his Stanford official visit this weekend. Whether the trip to Clemson has been postponed or is off the table entirely is unclear.
In late April, Petty told On3 that he hopes to make a decision before his senior season.
“I am hoping to make a decision before the season,” Petty said. “That is ideal for me, but if not, I will take more time. Where I go, I want to be loved. For it to be right, I want their to be love on both ends.”

Last week, On3’s Steve Wiltfong said that “Stanford is one to keep an eye on,” with Petty, but he and On3’s Chad Simmons agreed that Florida State currently has the most momentum in this recruitment. FSU leads for the star lineman in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) with a 71.7 percent chance of landing Petty’s commitment.
Florida State leads for Petty in RPM
On May 24, Simmons and Wiltfong ‘called their shots’ based on current intel for the nation’s top uncommitted prospects. This is what they had to say about Petty.
Simmons — Florida State: “There has been movement this spring in Josh Petty’s recruitment. Georgia was viewed as a favorite early in the year with Clemson and Tennessee high on his list. Now, as we get ready to close out May and enter June, Florida State has surged. I like where the Seminoles sit heading into official visits.”
Wiltfong — Florida State: “My prediction is on Florida State right now. I think with his older sister going there, the style of play, the relationship with Alex Atkins and the direction of the program, Mike Norvell…FSU is trending well right now. Other schools are in the mix, Stanford is one to keep an eye on and we’ll see if a program like an Ohio State rises up moving forward.”
Josh Petty Recruit Profile
Petty is the nation’s No. 25 overall prospect, No. 2 interior offensive lineman and No. 6 recruit from Florida in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him as a prospect:
“Athletic, physical offensive lineman with considerable developmental upside. Measured in at 6-foot-4, 265 pounds with 33.5-inch arms prior to his junior season. Two-way standout working at offensive tackle and defensive end for his high school. Shows high-end movement skills. Easily works to the second level. Light on his feet and moves with fluidity. Operates with a high level of conditioning playing on both sides of the ball. Good enough of an athlete to play on defense in college, though his upside is highest on the offensive line. Plays with a high effort level and physicality. Works to finish blocks with authority, driving defensive linemen to the sideline at times. Shows strong flexibility and core strength, coming off the ball low and firing through his hips.
“More advanced as a run blocker than pass protector at this time, but has the athletic ability to pass block at a high level with further development. A strong wrestler, finishing as the state runner-up as a sophomore. Also throws the shot put with a personal best of 40-8.5 feet as a sophomore. Faces a lower level of competition at the high school level. Could ultimately project at tackle or slide inside. Will need to continue adding good mass to his frame. Younger for the cycle, with an August birthday. Could feasibly be a 2026 prospect from an age perspective.”
