Andrew Luck describes his role at Stanford after being hired as football general manager
Andrew Luck can’t wait to get it going with Stanford once again, this time as the program’s general manager.
Luck, a College Football Hall of Famer and four-time Pro Bowl quarterback with the Indianapolis Colts, returned to his alma mater and football with the news Saturday. He’s eager to aid coach Troy Taylor and company resurrect Stanford to the highest heights of college football.
One of the all-time players at Stanford, Luck is right at home.
“Yeah, I can’t wait to work with Coach Taylor and the staff and the guys on the team, he’s got the team pointed in the right direction, and we’ve been close,” Luck said on College GameDay. “We’ve been close for a couple years. I had the chance to be on the hiring committee for him. And as everybody knows, in this game, it takes a team to go out and win. It is hard to win football games, and I think we’re putting the right team together.”
Luck won’t just sit back and delegate. He’s going to be heavily involved in improving the program.
“I imagine this being very hands on,” Luck said. “And, yeah, we do have a vision. We absolutely have a vision. And, you know, I think we are under no illusion about the landscape of college sports is well and out there.”
As far as game film, coaching, etc, that’s more on the staff, but Luck is eager to be in the nitty gritty of football once again.
“Well, that’s Coach Taylor’s domain,” Luck said. “I mean, Coach Taylor is innovative (coach), he’s a forward thinker. He’s had incredible success everywhere he’s been. I think he thinks about the offensive side of our game in a unique and intriguing way. So I’m excited to bring some value there. And, yeah, I am excited to be back in football. It’s the greatest game in our country, I love it. College football is amazing.”
Luck played for Stanford and former coach Jim Harbaugh from 2008-11 before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
