3-star CB Jamir Benjamin decommits from Stanford Cardinal
West Bloomfield (Mich.) three-star cornerback Jamir Benjamin announced his decommitment from Stanford on Thursday night. He was previously pledged to the Cardinal since Nov. 26.
Benjamin is the No. 491 overall prospect and No. 51 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 10 player in Michigan.
“First of all, I would like to thank Stanford University for the opportunity they’ve given me,” Benjamin wrote in a statement published to Twitter. “I appreciate the relationships I’ve built with coach (Paul) Williams, coach (Troy) Taylor, and the rest of the staff. After a long conversation with my family, I have decided to re-open my recruitment and de-commit from Stanford University. I will be making a decision Father’s Day week.”
Following Benjamin’s decommitment, Stanford’s 2024 recruiting class now contains two commitments. They are Atlanta (Ga.) Holy Innocents Episcopal School three-star defensive lineman Jacobi Murray and Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian three-star wide receiver Chase Farrell.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound defensive back originally chose Stanford over Michigan and Penn State among others, he told On3’s Jeremy Johnson on March 24. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Wolverines are now leading for his commitment at 50.8%.
“… I’m versatile,” Benjamin said. “I can play safety and corner. Whatever they tell me to do to get on the field, that’s what I’ll play.”

Stanford is hoping to regain recruiting success under Taylor
Despite losing a commitment from Benjamin, both of Stanford’s remaining 2024 commits are top-1,000 players in the On3 Industry Ranking. Additionally, Taylor and his staff have a 2025 pledge from Slinger (Wis.) four-star interior offensive lineman Charlie Hoitink.
The Cardinal still have multiple junior targets on the board, including Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star quarterback Elijah Brown and Huntington Beach (Calif.) four-star offensive tackle Justin Tauanuu. Per an interview with On3’s Chad Simmons on April 11, Tauanuu is intrigued by Stanford because of its opportunities on and off the field.
Meanwhile, Stanford’s 2023 class finished No. 42 in the 2023 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 7 in the Pac-12. The Cardinal’s group was led by Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco three-star cornerback Jshawn Frausto-Ramos.
Stanford landed signatures from two other top-500 prospects in Bainbridge (Ga.) Robert F. Munroe Day School three-star wide receiver Ahmari Borden and Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan three-star quarterback Myles Jackson. Other top-1,000 recruits to choose the Cardinal included Miami Christopher Columbus three-star running back Sedrick Irvin Jr., Murrieta (Calif.) Murrieta Valley three-star wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman three-star interior offensive lineman Zak Yamauchi.
