Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He spent three seasons with the Cardinal.

Maikkula appeared in all 12 of Stanford’s games last season and made 11 starts. He played several positions across the offensive line. He finished the year as the team’s highest-graded offensive lineman in passing blocking with at least seven games, per Pro Football Focus.

Maikkula never complained about being forced to play numerous positions. Instead, he embraced the challenge.

“Last season, I started a few games at right guard. Then, I moved to left guard,” Maikkula said last November, per The Stanford Daily. “I started this season out at left guard, and then, you know, just in practice, kind of all along, I’ve been taking some center reps.”

Prior to the 2024 campaign, Maikkula made eight appearances and five starts, all of which came in his sophomore season. Maikkula didn’t see any action in his freshman season in 2022. Alas, he never allowed his lack of playing time early in his career to discourage him.

“There’s always things you can blame, but at the end of the day, you know, you just kind of got to go out and do your job to the best of your ability, and just do your best, and good things will happen,” Maikkula said. “I try my best to be a student of the game, watching the film on opposing players and myself before games to figure out the best way to dominate.”

Jake Maikkula played high school football at Valor Christian (CO), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 829 overall player and No. 59 offensive tackle in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Maikkula led Valor Christian to a pair of 5A state runners-up finishes in Colorado. For his efforts, he was named a second-team all-state selection his junior year and first-team all-state his senior year.

Now, Maikkula will look to reach new heights elsewhere. Stanford went 3-9 last season, including an underwhelming 2-6 mark in its first season of ACC play.

Maikkula is the 12th Stanford player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Cardinal players are currently in the midst of a 30-day window to transfer after the school fired head coach Troy Taylor earlier this month.
