Cincinnati’s Tyler Betsey has committed to Syracuse from the NCAA Transfer Portal. That comes per On3’s Joe Tipton reporting on Friday evening.

Betsey, a recent top prospect out high school, entered the portal last month on April 8th. He gained plenty of interest in his transfer recruitment since then with the Orange now earning his commitment.

In 34 appearances off the bench for the Bearcats, Betsy averaged 3.3 points (35.7% FG, 32.1% 3PT) and 1.5 rebounds per game. That was the better season of their two freshman last year as he played in the second-most games on the team, even as a reserve.

A native of Windsor, Connecticut, Betsey played high school basketball at St. Thomas More in Oakdale. He was the No. 50 overall recruit there as a four-star in the 2024 cycle. He also rated as a Top-20 SF and as the No. 1 prospect out of the state of Connecticut. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He would then commit to Cincy, as one of the programs highest-rated recruits ever, over programs like Alabama, Duke, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, and TCU.

Now, coming off his freshman season with the Bearcats, Betsey was one of the top remaining players in the portal per the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players. He rates at No. 221 overall and as a Top-50 SF, which had him in the Top-50 left and as the No. 9 SF still available.

Betsey is now the latest of nine transfers from Cincinnati this cycle to commit elsewhere in the portal. He along with Dillon Mitchell (St. John’s), Dan Skillings Jr. (Baylor), Josh Reed (Penn State), and Arrinten Page (Northwestern) have chosen their new programs while Rayvon Griffith, CJ Anthony, Connor Hickman, and JJ Rembert remain uncommitted.

Syracuse, with the commitment of Betsey, is now up to six transfers of their own in the portal. The Orange have also brought in Nait George (Georgia Tech), Nate Kingz (Oregon State), William Kyle (UCLA), Ibrahim Souare (Georgia Tech), and Bryce Zephir (Montana State) as March ended and through the first two weeks or so of April.
