Former Georgia cornerback Chris Peal committed to Syracuse out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He has three years of eligibility left.

Peal played in one game as a freshman in 2023 and four last season. Overall, he has tackles in limited playing time with the Bulldogs.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Peal was a four-star recruit out of Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 5 overall prospect in the state, the No. 21 cornerback in the class and the No. 167 overall prospect in the class.

Chris Peal commits to Syracuse out of transfer portal

Peal wasn’t the only player to commit to Syracuse out of the portal this month. Syracuse also landed former Washington and Texas WR Johntay Cook on May 1. Cook played the past two seasons at Texas before transferring to the Huskies in the fall portal window, but again entered his name in the spring.

Cook appeared in 20 games overall during his career in Austin. He finished with 16 catches for 273 yards and two touchdowns across the past two seasons. This past season Cook battled a toe injury and played in the first six games before sitting out the back half of the season.

On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed Washington and Cook parted ways with each other on Jan. 14, less than 48 hours after the player arrived on campus. Since then, there have been multiple legal issues surrounding Cook.

His most recent arrest took place in February, when he was booked in Grayson County, TX, for marijuana possession of less than two ounces. That was after a pair of misdemeanors with theft as well as interfering with public duties were charged against him.

Cook played high school football at DeSoto (TX), where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 31 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
