Fran Brown jokes about not bathing after losses following Syracuse win over Cal: 'Winners get washed'
It’s time for Fran Brown to hit the showers. Perhaps literally.
The Syracuse head coach made waves with his comments after losing to Boston College that he doesn’t shower after losses because he “doesn’t deserve soap.” While many made some fun at Brown’s expense for this revelation — he said he only brushes his teeth — he was serious about it.
And after Syracuse picked up a 33-25 road win over Cal to move to 7-3 in his first year as head coach, Brown quipped that he could finally get clean.
“Yeah I’m about to get washed, winners get washed,” Brown said in a postgame interview with The CW.
It’s worth clarifying that Brown does end up showering eventually after losses — likely to much relief from his family — but often not until the next day or longer.
“Honestly, I got like a ritual. Like, when we lose? I ain’t even get in the shower until early this morning,” Brown said. “I just be mad. I just brush my teeth. It’s like I don’t deserve soap. I don’t deserve to do all that. I’m just focused on, like, trying to get back and trying to make sure that our players mentally understand and know that I let them down and that they didn’t do it.”

And thanks to his players, Brown will have some soap to accompany him. Starting quarterback Kyle McCord revealed the team gave their head coach a bottle of Old Spice in the locker room following the win. A hilarious and nice touch, playing into what has been a top storyline across college football in recent weeks.
“Kyle McCord says the team presented Fran Brown a bottle of Old Spice as part of the team’s Game Ball awards after the Cal win,” Chris Carlson of Syracuse.com said via X. “#WinnersGetWashed“
With a trans-continental flight from Berkeley, California, to Syracuse, New York, on deck after the game, Brown’s fellow passengers — his coaching colleagues and players — will certainly have time to celebrate, both for the win and their noses.
