Fran Brown once again thanks Ryan Day for allowing Kyle McCord to transfer to Syracuse
Fran Brown was really happy Syracuse landed QB Kyle McCord last winter after he decided to transfer from Ohio State.
In fact, Brown was so happy, he wanted to send champagne to Ohio State coach Ryan Day. Following this weekend, where McCord helped ‘Cuse upset Miami and Ohio State lost to Michigan once again, Brown felt validated.
Basically, Day can’t blame McCord for the loss to the Wolverines this time.
“I’m really happy for him. I’m happy for his family. It’s a big deal,” Brown said, via Menace 2 Sports. “It’s a big deal because he’s from New Jersey and I’m from New Jersey, so I’m excited for just our communities, you know, everyone down there represents him, but just the country, to be able to see how good of a football player he is. And, you know, it was kind of put out as if he was the reason (for Ohio State’s losses). So, I mean, I guess after watching him win this weekend, and I don’t know what happened … (you’re) seeing the same results again, you can’t blame Kyle.”
McCord actually leads the nation in passing yards this year with 4,326 yards, 29 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 65.8% completion percentage. Safe to say, McCord played extremely well in a 9-3 season.

Alabama WR to transfer
“So I’m happy that Kyle was able to go and clear his name, come here and show that he’s a good quarterback,” Brown said. “I got ridiculed for stating that I wanted to send Ryan Day a bottle of champagne where I wasn’t being disrespectful. I was just saying, this guy’s the real deal, and you guys let him come here, like, great, thank you. I still owe him. Should send him some more, should send him a (expletive) case … excuse my language, but just extremely excited and thankful for Kyle.”
Prior to this season, McCord appeared in 24 games, including 13 starts with a dozen coming last year, for Ohio State from 2021 to 2023. In that time, he completed 66.5% of his throws for 3,776 yards, 27 touchdowns, and eight interception. Most of that came as a junior last season with him throwing for 3,170 yards, 24 scores, and six picks on 65.8% completion as the starter.
McCord then elected to enter the transfer portal upon the opening of the cycle last December. He later committed to Syracuse two weeks later. He did so as the No. 9 QB and No. 49 overall transfer per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players.
