Kyle McCord: Syracuse players presented Fran Brown with bottle of soap after win vs. Cal
Showers are for winners and thankfully for Fran Brown, he is a winner on Saturday. Syracuse headed out West and took care of business against Cal, winning 33-25. The plane ride home will be a long one but Brown’s night will include a shower.
And thanks to his players, Brown will have some soap to accompany him. Starting quarterback Kyle McCord revealed the team gave their head coach a bottle of Old Spice in the locker room following the win. A hilarious and nice touch, playing into what has been a top storyline across college football in recent weeks.
“Kyle McCord says the team presented Fran Brown a bottle of Old Spice as part of the team’s Game Ball awards after the Cal win,” Chris Carlson of Syracuse.com said via X. “#WinnersGetWashed“
Brown certainly earned his soap after getting the Cal win. It was the program’s seventh of the season, improving to 7-3 on the year. Not too many of those have come since joining the ACC but Brown has done a great job with the Orange.

Even during his on-field postgame interview, Brown referenced the shower.
“Yeah I’m about to get washed, winners get washed,” Brown said in a postgame interview with The CW.
Fran Brown revealed shower ritual following Syracuse losses
The story around Brown and his shower habits began following Syracuse’s loss to Boston College. Brown was not too happy with the result and explained his mentality through it all.
“Honestly, I got like a ritual. Like, when we lose? I ain’t even get in the shower until early this morning,” said Brown. “I just be mad. I just brush my teeth. It’s like I don’t deserve soap. I don’t deserve to do all that. I’m just focused on, like, trying to get back and trying to make sure that our players mentally understand and know that I let them down and that they didn’t do it.”
“There’s a process that I follow every week – win, lose, or draw. Only thing is, like, my wife? I can’t sleep in the bed if we lose because I’m not going to get in the shower for that day,” Brown said. “I’m just mad. I just sit there. I just brush my teeth. That’s what I have to do so y’all won’t say my breath stink. But I’m just kind of locked into certain things, certain ways. I think you’ve got to earn the right to do certain things. So, you know, winners get washed, you know what I’m saying. I’m a loser so I just kind of wait a little bit.”
