Carey chose the Syracuse Orange over Rutgers, UMass, Brown, Iona, among others.
Peter Carey on why he chose Syracuse
“I don’t think there’s a better situation for me in the country,” Carey said. “Just looking at the way their system is, with their zone and how they utilize their big men. I was just like ‘this is the place for me.’ And then I did research on the education and what life is like at Syracuse and I just fell in love with it and knew it was the place for me.”
Carey first stepped foot on campus at Syracuse in late August for an elite camp, where he was able to tour the campus and see the facilities. Carey already held an offer from Syracuse and knew this is where he would call home. This past weekend, Carey took an official visit to Syracuse and had this to say about his time:

“The official visit for me was reassurance,” Carey said. “I knew Syracuse was the spot for me and I was able to interact with the players. It’s so much of a brotherhood there and they showed me so much love. I was able to sit in on classes and see what school life was like there. Then I was able to sit down with (Jim) Boeheim and talk to him and look at film. I got a good sense as to how I’d be utilized.”
How would Carey describe his game?
“I’m a very athletic big man,” Carey said. “I love to be involved in every single play. I don’t like to watch things happen, I like to take action. I want to help affect things in a positive manner for my team. I work really hard. I get rebounds, I get blocks. I’m a great passer. If I can polish my game up more, I feel like I have a very high ceiling and I can go far with basketball.”
What’s Carey most excited about when he steps foot on campus?
With zero hesitation, Carey replied: “Honestly, winning some championships.”
