Syracuse starting offensive lineman J’Onre Reed has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Reed transferred to Syracuse ahead of the 2023 campaign after beginning his career at Hutchinson Community College.

Reed played and started in 12 games for the Orange this season. He also started every game of the 2023 campaign. He was Syrcause’s highest-graded pass blocker among players who played more than 300 offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. He played 815 offensive snaps and was responsible for just one sack.

In his lone season at Hutchinson CC in 2022, Reed led the team to an NJCAA National Championship Game appearance, finishing with an 11-1 record. For his efforts, he was named an NJCAA Second Team All-American.

J’Onre Reed played high school football at Eisenhower (TX), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Reed is the ninth Syracuse player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. To soften its losses, Syracuse has also already added four players via the portal. The Orange are currently ranked No. 60 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.

Syracuse had a standout season in its first year under head coach Fran Brown, finishing with a 10-3 record. The Orange capped off their season with a 52-35 win over Washington State in the Holiday Bowl on Friday.

After the win, Brown reflected on his first season leading the Orange.

“It’s a collective thing that’s been going on through the entire building, and everybody is working; everyone is on the same page. No one is bigger than the S,” Brown said. “… I’m happy that we’re in the position that we’re in, and we set a standard.

“I think the 10 wins show that we are becoming a successful program, and we have it continue to work, so this is just a standard that was set, and we want to go above and beyond because the Sinkhole and these guys did an amazing job and put us in position to where we are now, and I’m hoping that the younger guys can see what they did and go lead even better.”

The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 7 and closed on Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
