Syracuse Orange offensive lineman Kalan Ellis has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has leaned. He’s played in 21 career games over his time in college football, accumulating 14 starts in that period.

Ellis played high school football at St Louis School (Honolulu, HI), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1305 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Syracuse surprised a ton of people last season with their impressive play. Ellis didn’t see much playing time, and now he’ll be looking for a team that uses him a bit more effectively. Time will tell where he decides is best for him.

Meanwhile, Syracuse quarterback Michael Johnson Jr. is also entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. He announced the news via social media on Monday.

“Grateful for my time at Syracuse! Appreciate all my coaches and teammates for making this past year so enjoyable. I wish everybody nothing but the best!” Johnson Jr. posted on X. “With that being said I will be entering the Transfer Portal for my final year of eligibility!

The quarterback transferred to Syracuse ahead of the 2024 season. Prior, he spent two seasons at Florida Atlantic. He hasn’t seen extended playing time with either the Owls or the Orange in his collegiate career.

Johnson Jr.’s decision to transfer comes after head coach Fran Brown made a decision on the team’s starting quarterback for 2025. Rickie Collins will be the guy for the Orange. He’s in his first season with the program after transferring from LSU.

Collins will have some big shoes to fill. Syracuse saw their offense explode in 2024 thanks to another transfer, Kyle McCord. Previously at Ohio State, McCord turned into one of the best statistical quarterbacks in college football last season.
