With the calendar turning to November, it’s officially time for the College Football Playoff rankings to take center stage. With the first set taking place on Tuesday night, there is already some outrage about decisions the committee has made. Specifically from Fox analyst Joel Klatt and the TCU Horned Frogs.

Klatt took to Twitter to voice his displeasure, saying TCU should be ranked ahead of Clemson. “Brand bias” is why Sonny Dykes’ team is not higher up in the CFP rankings per Klatt. He thinks had someone like Texas or Oklahoma had the same resume, they would be “no lower” than No. 4.

“So, @TCUFootball has two wins that are better than any win Clemson has… @ClemsonFB is not a bad football team, but TCU got snubbed by brand bias…If Texas or OU had the exact same resume as TCU they would by no lower than 4,” Klatt said.

Clemson debuted at No. 4, three spots ahead of TCU at No. 7. Between them is an undefeated Michigan at No. 5, while No. 6 Alabama has one loss — to the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. To Klatt’s points, those are also two of the top “brands” in college football.

Comparing ranked wins between Clemson, TCU

Clemson has three ranked wins in ACC play, coming against NC State (22), Syracuse (20), and Wake Forest (21). Those have come by an average of just over a touchdown with two of them coming at home in Death Valley.

When looking at TCU, they only have two ranked wins. However, they are both against teams higher in the rankings than the three Clemson has won against. They were Kansas State (13) and Oklahoma State (18) albeit, both were in Fort Worth.

Even with two teams ranked in between them, TCU and Clemson will likely be compared to one another all season if they remain undefeated. The Horned Frogs have one team currently ranked on the schedule — aforementioned No. 24 Texas — before conference championship weekend.

As for Dabo Swinney’s squad, they will need somebody else to hop into the top 25 to improve the resume. North Carolina could be a possibility down the road in the ACC Championship game, who is currently ranked No. 17.
