One day after reports emerged that TCU coach Sonny Dykes was targeting former Houston and West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen for a role on his staff, news surfaced that Dykes is planning to add another former head coach as well.

ESPN reports Dykes plans to create a role for former Hawaii and Arizona State coach Todd Graham on his staff.

“They’re talented people that I have known for more than 20 years, who both have been very successful and have a unique perspective,” Dykes told ESPN’s Dave Wilson. “They can help us win.”

According to ESPN, the two will serve as analysts and advance scouts working for the opposite side of the ball as their expertise. In other words, Holgorsen will help TCU’s defense with his offensive knowledge, while Graham will help the offense with his defensive knowledge.

That should allow TCU to more thoroughly prepare gameplans for each opponent.

Graham has been a head coach at several stops, including his most recent gig at Hawaii. He resigned from his post as head coach with the Rainbow Warriors in early 2022 after allegations of mistreatment of players surfaced.

The last two years have given him the chance to look at the game from a different angle after a long history as a head coach.

Most prominently, Graham was the head coach at Arizona State for six years, where he compiled a 46-32 record and appeared in bowl games in five of six seasons.

Prior to that, Graham spent one season as the head coach at Pittsburgh, going 6-6. He got that job after producing 36 wins in just four years at Tulsa, winning 10 or more games three times in four seasons.

Graham’s first stint as a head coach came at Rice back in 2006.

ESPN also noted that Graham “has been an informal adviser for Dykes in previous years,” so the two already have a functional working relationship, something that should help the transition into the new role at TCU.
