KJ Jefferson and TCU could be a match made in heaven
As the NCAA transfer portal has filled up and started to settle, there are still dozens of top-notch players who have yet to find a new home. Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson is among them.
But there might just be a perfect fit out there for the talented dual-threat prospect who watched his production dip after a key figure left Fayetteville.
“KJ’s an interesting one because one of the schools that you mentioned when he entered the portal was TCU,” On3’s Andy Staples said, speaking with On3’s Pete Nakos. “Kendal Briles was his offensive coordinator at Arkansas, is now the offensive coordinator at TCU. That marriage worked very well the first time around. That seems like there would be a lot of comfort there.”
Under Briles’ tutelage in Fayetteville, KJ Jefferson put together back-to-back seasons with at least 2,600 yards passing and 20 touchdown passes, as well as at least 600 yards rushing and six rushing touchdowns.
His production fell off a cliff in 2023, with his total yardage output dropping, his completion percentage falling, his touchdowns down considerably and his interceptions up.

There’s no denying KJ Jefferson’s ability when he’s being used properly, either.
He was a force in the SEC, often single-handedly keeping Arkansas competitive with some of its more talented peers. Nakos, who has reported on Jefferson’s options extensively, sees TCU as an almost no-brainer.
“I think it just like would make too much sense, almost,” Nakos said. “Josh Hoover is the redshirt freshman that TCU played this year, and he was solid. But I mean the proof is kind of there, right? KJ succeeded, had his best two seasons at Arkansas when he was with Kendal. And bringing those two back together, reunion in Fort Worth, that could be a recipe for success for Sonny Dykes.”
Jefferson entered the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer on Monday, making him a prospect other schools can now get in touch with. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
As things stand, he’s currently ranked as the No. 5 quarterback in the NCAA transfer portal.
If it is indeed TCU for the SEC star, it’ll be a big boon to the Horned Frogs’ offensive efforts going forward. KJ Jefferson is a ball player.
