Paul Finebaum doesn't want to hear about TCU anymore this season after loss to Colorado

TCU has been a national story for all of the wrong reasons in each of their past two appearances on a football field. That’s why, even though they’re only one game in their 2023 campaign, Paul Finebaum is good with there being no more attention on the Horned Frogs this fall.

Finebaum and Matt Barrie looked at Colorado’s 45-42 win in Forth Worth this past weekend from TCU’s perspective on Sunday. Based on how Georgia pummeled them in last year’s national title game and how the Buffaloes turned their appearance in Amon G. Carter into their personal coming-out party, Finebaum believes the Horned Frogs may have just earned themselves a rough reputation.

“I think we both have equal respect for Sonny Dykes. But the real problem now is that in these two major events? The 65-7 beatdown that nobody will ever forget? And what we saw (this weekend)? They carry this now around their neck that they just can’t handle the big stage, even though we know that’s not true,” said Finebaum. “They beat Michigan in the semifinal. But it will haunt them.”

To be fair, TCU lost the shootout of the season’s opening weekend. They did score six touchdowns of their own, two from QB Chandler Morris and four from their run game with Trey Sanders carrying in three of them.

However, it was not enough to win the day on their home field against Coach Prime and Colorado. The defense gave up high efficiency as the Buffaloes put up 565 total yards. A majority of that came through the air from QB Shedeur Sanders. They also routinely gave up conversions on third and fourth down.

Meanwhile, Morris also threw two interceptions for the home team while TCU also committed four more penalties that cost them 43 more yards the Colorado’s errors did.

TCU closed last season and opened this one with different, yet still resounding, thuds. That’s why, although it’s just the start of September, Finebaum is fine to move on to other topics besides the Horned Frogs this season.

“Quite frankly, I don’t want to hear about TCU anymore this season,” Finebaum stated.

Finebaum gives more brutal assessment of TCU following Colorado loss

Colorado announced itself by going into Fort Worth and beating TCU. After the game, the Horned Frogs left Paul Finebaum with some major concerns for them moving forward.

During an appearance on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Finebaum pointed out how much it has helped Colorado to have talented players. He also added that he thinks Colorado was lucky to be going against a TCU team that has issues.

“It’s amazing what talented players will do for you, Greg,” Finebaum said. “I was about to say only two, he’s got two that we are talking about today, everybody in the country. But he’s got a lot more than that. I think they were fortunate. They were up against a paper tiger.”

For Finebaum, TCU was that paper tiger that might look like a threat but isn’t really.

“I don’t know where you go if you’re TCU right now. Your last two national championship appearances? You got your nose broken and your teeth knocked out. Then you were just laid on the railroad track to die, essentially. Because that program, which has worked so hard, has been shattered, and embarrassed, and humiliated. Nobody wants to see them, hear them, or have anything to do with them again.”
