No. 4 TCU might not have its leading receiver Quentin Johnston against No. 18 Texas, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Johnston is considered a game-time decision, per Thamel’s report.
Update: TCU head coach Sonny Dykes told ESPN’s Holly Rowe on College GameDay that he believes Johnston will play against Texas.
Johnston has been nursing an ankle injury all week after going down during the Horned Frogs’ first possession against Texas Tech. He didn’t return against the Red Raiders, and hadn’t practiced until Thursday.
The junior wideout has hauled in 42 receptions for 650 yards and four touchdowns for TCU this season, and will be sorely missed if he can’t play in Saturday’s huge Big 12 matchup.

He’ll go through warmups and from there, the TCU training staff will make a final decision based on how he’s feeling afterward. Kickoff between the Horned Frogs and Longhorns is set for 7:30 p.m. ET live on ABC.

Sonny Dykes, TCU looking to take things day by day
As any college football coach would tell you, Dykes says TCU is taking things “one day at a time.” The biggest matchup of the season is ahead, with a top-20 showdown against Texas scheduled for primetime on ESPN.
College GameDay may be in town and focused on the Horned Frogs but all focus is on Saturday night in Austin.
“I think our guys have a one-day-at-a-time approach and it’s served us well at this point,” said Dykes. “Our guys just want to go out, have a good practice tomorrow and do everything we can to play our best game on Saturday and go out and play against a very, very good Texas team on the road, in front of a good crowd. College GameDay and all of the things that go along with that.
“But it’s not something that we discuss really because we know we have a job to do. It’s been a challenge to get here but it’s going to be even more of a challenge to stay here. We have to focus on what we can control and that’s our preparation and our performance on Saturday night.”
