Relationships, atmosphere at TCU win out for Vernon Glover Jr.
Dickinson (Texas) three-star cornerback Vernon Glover Jr. was always high on TCU.
The Horned Frogs’ new staff made him a priority in the 2023 cycle when they took over, and first got him on campus this spring to watch practice. A couple months later, he returned to Fort Worth this weekend to get another look at things. By Saturday evening, he was ready to make his commitment. On Sunday, he publicly announced for Sonny Dykes and Co., choosing TCU over Houston and a handful of other offers.
“I was always leaning toward TCU,” he told On3. “But after this visit, I just went ahead and pulled the trigger. They’ve been the frontrunner for a little while now. I just needed that visit. … It just showed me everything I needed to see and gave me that vibe and that family atmosphere.”
Connections with coaching staff were big for Vernon Glover Jr.
Glover picked up an offer from TCU in mid-January, a little less than two months after Dykes replaced Gary Patterson. He developed a strong bond with first-year cornerbacks coach Carlton Buckels, and as his recruitment went on, he connected more with Dykes, too.
Those relationships paid off, as Glover said his rapport with TCU’s staff was second-to-none.
“The family atmosphere was a big part, but they just told me that they’re going to push me to be where I need to be and to get everything I want to achieve,” he added. “… Coaches that are going to stay on me 24/7, I need that.”

Dykes and his full staff got the news Saturday on the visit, with Glover telling the Horned Frogs’ head man of his decision in person. The family celebrated with the coaching staff, with Dykes and Glover’s little brother jumping around in excitement.
Now, he looks forward to joining what he believes will be a Big 12 championship contender in the DFW area.
“Everything that we’ve been talking about, I want to be a part of what he’s trying to build there,” Glover said of Dykes. “I think he can make this program really good, with Big 12 championships and all of that.”
