WATCH: Sonny Dykes blows up on officials after late substitution from Oklahoma State
TCU football coach Sonny Dykes was unable to control his temper after Oklahoma State was allowed a late substitution in the first quarter Saturday, forcing the Horned Frogs to call timeout to avoid a delay of game.
Dykes got up in an official’s face several times as he screamed angrily trying to state his case. Surprisingly, Dykes was not assessed a penalty for the outburst, and Max Duggan completed a 48-yard pass to Quentin Johnston on the next play to set up TCU’s first touchdown of the afternoon.
The touchdown was a 1-yard run from Duggan, and would make the score 14-7 in favor of Oklahoma State. The Cowboys later added a field goal and currently lead 17-7 with 13:32 remaining in the second quarter.

“Well, I mean, they’re doing a good job of holding it,” Dykes said. “We’ve got to get it figured out. I think the officials said they would talk at halftime. Hopefully come up with a little bit better plan,” Dykes said.
Dykes’ comments proved true, as the ABC broadcast reported after halftime that Cowboys coach Mike Gundy received a warning for his substitution in the first quarter. The Cowboys held a 24-13 advantage at the half.
So far in the second half, OSU has increased its lead to 30-16 after hitting a pair of field goals and giving up just one to TCU. They will hope that two-touchdown lead can be enough to hang on for the win and improve to 6-0 this season.
Meanwhile, TCU will look to come up with some quick offense and avoid its first loss of the season.
