It got heated this evening in the TCU vs. Texas matchup in the Big 12 baseball tournament. TCU pitcher Luke Savage was trying to intentionally walk Texas batter Ivan Melendez. Horned Frogs’ head man Kirk Sarloos wanted Melendez to take his base and came out to let the umpire Casey Moser know about it. But a heated discussion ensued, and Sarloos was tossed.

Texas won Thursday night’s matchup in the Big 12 Tournament 5-3. Longhorns outfielder Murphy Steely blasted a three-run home run off TCU pitcher Marcelo Perez Jr. in the first inning, his 17th of the season.

Texas lefty pitcher Lucas Gordon threw seven innings and allowed just two hits, one earned run, while striking out four Horned Frogs batters.

TCU’s Gray Rodgers blasted a solo shot in the ninth inning to close the Texas lead to two at 5-3, but that was as close as the Horned Frogs would get in the matchup. With the win, Texas advances to the Big 12 Semifinals on Saturday, where either TCU or Oklahoma State will have to beat them twice to keep them out of the Big 12 title game.

Kirk Sarloos made Big 12 history this year for TCU

Kirk Sarloos was making big waves in the regular season with the Horned Frogs, becoming the first head coach in Big 12 history to lead his team to the regular season title in his first year as head coach. The Horned Frogs’ head man was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year this year.

TCU’s Marcelo Perez helped keep the game within reach for the Horned Frogs. He tossed a career-high seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out six batters. TCU cut the score to 3-2 in the sixth inning after Brayden Taylor scored on a sacrifice fly.
