TCU players celebrate 2023 Big 12 Tournament Championship

The TCU Horned Frogs defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys 12-5 in the 2023 Big 12 Tournament Championship on Sunday evening. The Horned Frogs jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back. It’s the 4th Big 12 Tournament Championship in program history. TCU scored 12 runs on 16 hits, and they made it look easy on Sunday evening.

It was the Horned Frogs’ second Big 12 Tournament Championship in three years. They were dominant the entire tournament, outscoring their opponents by a score of 48-15 in four games. They have now qualified for eight of the last nine NCAA Tournaments. For a look at the projected field for the 2023 NCAA Tournament check here. TCU won four games in four days to bring home the Big 12 Tournament crown. They demolished Kansas State (16-3) and Kansas (14-4). Then the second time they faced Kansas State they won 6-3. And they finished it off with a rout of the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Sunday night. TCU currently sits at 37-22 overall and they’ve won six straight games.

The outcome was never really in doubt. The Horned Frogs held an 8-0 advantage after the third inning, and that lead was never threatened the rest of the way. The closest the Cowboys would come would be when they trimmed the TCU lead to 10-5 in the seventh inning.

Luke Boyers blasted a three-run shot that put the Horned Frogs up 4-0 in the second inning. Branden Taylor blasted a two-run homer for TCU in the 8th inning that put his team up by 7, 12-5. Their lead was the largest when they went up 8-0 in the third inning. Pitcher Luke Savage (4-4 overall) got the win after allowing two hits and one walk. He also fired two strikeouts.

Oklahoma State lost to No. 7 seed Oklahoma in the first round on Wednesday, but then won four games in three days, including two wins on Saturday against Texas Tech, to advance to the Big 12 Tournament Championship.

TCU will now await the official release of the 2023 NCAA Tournament field. That will happen during the 2023 NCAA Baseball Tournament Selection Show. It will be nationally televised on Monday, May 29th on ESPN2. The show is set to begin at noon EST.
