TCU safety Abe Camara was unfortunately ejected for targeting on Friday night in their matchup against the Houston Cougars. Camara was ejected with 6:49 left in the first quarter for a hit in which he absolutely leveled Cougars running back Stacy Sneed.

Here is the video of the play.

The hit, which came during a key first-quarter third-down play, got the Amon G. Carter Stadium crowd fired up and caused Sneed to fumble. Houston managed to recover the fumble, setting up a critical fourth down.

After the hit, officials stopped play to review for targeting and decided that Camara had made forcible contact with Sneed’s head or neck area. He was then ejected from the game. Houston then got the ball, half the distance to the goal. They then scored the first touchdown of the game three plays later on an eight-yard screen pass to Devan Williams.

The ejection really hurt TCU’s depth at the safety position. Their backup safety had to be treated to for an injury on the sidelines. So, they were down to their third string safety. Camara had to miss the rest of the game. But the good news is, he’ll be back for the next game.

At the end of the third quarter, Houston was leading TCU 24-12. The Cougars were up 17-0 at one point in the second quarter, but the Horned Frogs managed to battle back a little bit.

Houston came away with the upset victory, 30-19.

Before exiting the game on Friday night, Camara came away with two tackles and one forced fumble. In 2023, he racked up 39 total tackles and two passes defended. Coming out of West Forsyth High School (Cumming, Georgia), Camara had scholarship offers from both TCU and Hawaii.

Up next, TCU will have some time off before facing off against the Utah Utes. That one will be on Saturday, Oct. 19th.
