TCU 'targeting' Arkansas' Jimmy Smith for vacant RB coach position
TCU is making a major move regarding their offensive staff, looking towards the SEC as they look to bounce back in 2024.
Sonny Dykes and the Horned Frogs have reportedly targeted Arkansas’ Jimmy Smith for their running backs coach opening, according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports.
“TCU is targeting Arkansas’ Jimmy Smith for its running backs coach opening, sources tell @247Sports,” Zenitz reported. “Smith, who worked with TCU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles at Arkansas, has coached standout players like Rocket Sanders with the Razorbacks.
“He previously worked at Georgia State and as a state title winning high school head coach in Georgia.”
As Zenitz mentioned, the move would be a major one for the Horned Frogs, as they look to give TCU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles all of the tools he needs to bring TCU back to the forefront of the Big 12.
We’ll see how it works out for TCU in 2024. The Horned Frogs have big expectations after making the College Football Playoff two seasons ago, and with an expanded field, anything is possible for the program.

Report: TCU hires former Nebraska assistant Bob Wager
In other Horned Frogs related news, TCU has hired Bob Wager to a high school relations role, according to Zenitz. Wager is a long-time high school coach in the state but left to accept a role on Matt Rhule‘s staff in Nebraska. Now, the Horned Frogs have brought him back to the Lone Star State.
“TCU has hired former Nebraska assistant and longtime Texas high school head coach Bob Wager in a high school relations role, sources tell @247sports,” Zenitz said via X. “Before taking the job at Nebraska, Wager was a high school head coach in Texas for 26 years and coached players like Myles Garrett.”
Nebraska hired Wager to be the program’s tight end coach, taking him away from Arlington Martin High School. However, his stint in Lincoln was short resigning after being charged with multiple driving citations, one of which was a DUI.
Following his departure, Rhule wished Wager the best and challenged him to respond in the right way.
Arlington Martin is one of the top programs in the state of Texas, continually sending players to play Division I football. None bigger than current NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett. Wager led the program for 17 seasons.
