UTSA Roadrunners running back Kevorian Barnes has committed to transfer to the TCU Horned Frogs, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Barnes played four seasons with UTSA, taking a redshirt in the 2021 season. During that time, he played in 39 games for the Roadrunners and carried the ball 366 times for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns. That’s 4.9 yards per carry. He also has 31 receptions for 237 yards through the air.

However, 2024 was a step back statistically for Barnes. He carried the ball 69 fewer times than in 2023 and as a result, he’s coming off a season where he only rushed for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

Coming out of high school at San Augustine in Texas, Kevorian Barnes was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the 117th-ranked running back and the 1,478th-ranked player overall in that recruiting cycle.

Now, Barnes is joining a TCU team coming off an 8-4 season in 2024. That landed the Horned Frogs in the New Mexico Bowl. It also moved the Horned Frogs to 13-11 since their run to the national championship team in 2022.

As a team, TCU is coming off a season where the Horned Frogs were 112th in the country in rushing offense, averaging 114.25 yards per game on the ground. That was 13th out of 16 teams in the Big 12. Still, the Horned Frogs had 26 rushing touchdowns for the season.

The transfer portal opened up on December 9th and since then TCU has been active in the portal. TCU currently has the 35th-ranked transfer class in the 2025 transfer cycle, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That’s a class that has seen six players officially enter the Transfer Portal and three who have signed with the Horned Frogs. That number already includes Barnes.
