During Saturday’s matchup between TCU and Kansas State, a brawl broke out following a late hit on Kansas State’s quarterback, leading to multiple ejections. TCU had safeties Da’Veawn Armstead and D’Arco Perkins-McAllister were both ejected for throwing punches in the scuffle, along with Kansas State wide receiver Tyrone Howell.

TCU and Kansas State players ejected

The fight erupted during the third quarter when TCU’s Josh Foster delivered a big hit on Kansas State’s Skylar Thompson as he stepped out of bounds. Players from both teams joined the brawl on the TCU sideline as coaches attempted to separate the players.

The resulting decision by the game officials was to eject Armstead and Perkins-McAllister from TCU and Howell from Kansas State.

Ultimately, the Horned Frogs suffered the bigger loss on the play and eventually the big loss on the day. The Wildcats won 31-12, on a day where TCU reached the Kansas State five-yard line on three occasions and only scored three points on the drives.

Failure to reach the end zone was the major deciding factor in the game, as nearly every offensive metric was closely contested aside from the score. TCU won the turnover battle and didn’t turn the ball over once, as well as earning 17 first downs to Kansas State’s 16. The Wildcats 388 yards was just barely higher than the Horned Frogs’ 326.

With the loss on Saturday, TCU drops to 3-5 on the season as Kansas State improves to 5-3.

TCU coach Gary Patterson on hot seat

Gary Patterson’s time at TCU could be on the clock. The second head coaching move in the Big 12 could be coming according to FOX’s Bruce Feldman.

The winningest head coach in Horned Frogs history, Patterson helped them make the move to the Big 12 and become relevant on the college football landscape. But TCU is 3-4 this season and has not had a double-digit win season since 2017.

Patterson is in his 21st season with the school, but for TCU to continue to be competitive, the move might have to happen. The Horned Frogs have also not won the conference since 2011.

“(In addition to Texas Tech,) one other job that could open in [Sonny Dykes]’ native state of Texas, I was told by some sources this week close to the situation at TCU, that this could be Gary Patterson’s last year as the head coach of the Horned Frogs,” Feldman said.

SMU head coach Sonny Dykes could be the main target for the Horned Frogs. In his fifth season with the Mustangs, Dykes has them ranked in the top 25 and at 7-0. He was previously the head coach at Cal and Louisiana Tech.
