WATCH: TCU basketball places walk-on Harrison Young on scholarship in surprise fashion
When the TCU Horned Frogs (12-3) boarded the team plane to travel to Ames, where they will face the Iowa State Cyclones (14-4), the team did so in memorable fashion, placing walk-on Harrison Young on scholarship in surprising fashion.
TCU boarded the plane but before takeoff, the flight attendant singled out Young in a scripted sequence.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I need Harrison Young to come up here because there’s something wrong with your passport,” she said.
Young quickly made his way to the front of the plane, passport in hand, and began discussing with the TSA crew, only to find out that his passport wasn’t the real reason he was singled out. Instead, it was because he was being put on scholarship.
“I’m sorry, Harrison, I misread the note,” the flight attendant said to Young. “The note really says you’re on scholarship.”
The plane erupted after the announcement, as TCU players and coaches began to swarm Young in congratulatory fashion.
Young, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound senior from Auckland, New Zealand, appeared in one game last season against Texas. This season, he’s appeared in two games against Southern Miss and Grambling, totaling three minutes across his two appearances. Young has not scored a point but shot three times against Grambling, going 0-3 from the field.

TCU looks to rebound against Iowa State
TCU, fresh off the memorable plane ride for Young, will take to Iowa State looking to rebound from the Horned Frogs’ last game against Oklahoma State.
TCU took Oklahoma State to the ropes, thanks in part to 13 points from forward Charles O’Bannon Jr. and 12 points from Francisco Farabello, but the Cowboys ended up edging out the Horned Frogs in an intense, 57-56 final. Now, the Horned Frogs have a chance to rebound against one of thee Big 12’s best — and most surprising — programs in Iowa State.
After an abysmal 2-22 performance under Steve Prohm, Iowa State moved on from its former head coach and instead opted to hire T.J. Otzelberger. And through just a couple months on the job, Otzelberger has put together a remarkable turnaround, as the Cyclones now rank No. 15 in the country and at one point ranked as high as No. 8.
TCU enters a critical road matchup at 4:00 p.m. ET, and though both programs are coming off losses — TCU to Oklahoma State and Iowa State to Texas Tech — a win could help propel TCU’s season.
