Dylan Lewis‘ recruitment started early. The 5-foot-11.5, 180-pound cornerback out of Milton (Ga.) is just two months into his junior year, but he has been recruited for two-plus years already.

Over two dozen schools have offered Lewis and Tennessee jumped on him early. In the summer before his sophomore year, the Vols offered, and the SEC program in Knoxville has been high on his list since.

Tennessee has been steady with Lewis and over time, they moved to the top of his list and after spending time there last month when Tennessee beat South Carolina, he knew he was ready to put his name on their commitment list.

“I never really had a timeline,” Lewis told On3. “It was always about when I felt right. After the game I was after a couple of weeks ago, I knew it. Once the game was over, I was with Coach Josh Heupel in the office and that is when I committed. I told him about my decision, then Coach Willie Martinez came in and gave me a hug when he found out. On that visit, it hit me and my mind was made up.”

Lewis committed to Tennessee over Clemson and LSU. He chose the Vols for multiple reasons.

“I love the atmosphere at Tennessee, how the players and coaches interact with each other and how the program has changed under Coach Heupel.

“Tennessee signed elite players in 2023, they have elite players in 2024 and that is going to continue in 2025. Coach Heupel has quickly changed the culture at Tennessee and they are definitely going to make a national championship run in the coming years.”

Lewis is the second prospect in the 2025 class to commit to Tennessee. He joins Shamar Arnoux.

Lewis is excited about the coaches he will play for at Tennessee

Player development is another reason Tennessee is the school for Lewis. He has a great relationship with Coach Martinez and he likes his resume and style of coaching.

“Coach Martinez is a straight-up guy. He is always teaching and coaching. I don’t even play for him, but he already helps me, he points out things I can improve on film and I like that a lot. Coach Martinez is honest, he tells the truth and I like his ability to coach players at my position.”

Lewis is excited about playing for Heuple as well. Heupel is not just a coach on the field, but he is heavily involved with day-to-day recruiting as well. That made an impact on Lewis.

“Coach is a cool, straight-up coach that takes time out of his day to recruit. That was very important to me. We have developed a good relationship and I love how he has gotten to know me, how he checks up on my family and that means a lot to me.

“He is just a great mix of energy and being chill. He relates to his players, the players make plays for him because of how connected he is to them and that is why Tennessee has been able to change things around so quickly. Coach Heupel has come in and quickly changed the Tennessee culture.”

Lewis has attended two games and he will be back this weekend as a commitment for the Texas A&M game. Overall, he has visited Knoxville around half a dozen times and he is excited about the fans he will get to play in front of.

“Things get really loud there,” Lewis said. “The Tennessee fans are passionate. They are in tune with every player whether it is big or small. Everyone is cheering, they support their team and it is a great atmosphere to be in.”
